Learning Journey: Working with Content Hub
Content Hub’s real value lies in its ability to share content between sites on the SiteMasonry platform.
This ability means you can write content once, but have it display across a variety of sites. This can have a variety of benefits, depending on the content you are sharing. No event at Mason happens in isolation.
Consider some examples
- If someone works with multiple programs or departments, a Content Hub profile allows you to ensure the most complete profile possible is shared every time. Updating once updates it everywhere.
- When someone wants to reference a specific academic program at Mason, it is best they can share a uniform marketing profile, rather than what the course catalog contains. Using the Content Hub academic programs feature lets you create an easily shared page that focuses on selling the program, rather than just the basic requirements.
- When you write an article about an event or achievement within your department, you want to make sure word gets out. Content Hub news articles can be shared between multiple sites easily, allowing you to get the word out. This is especially handy for news items involving multiple departments or offices. Want a department’s story to show on the parent college’s page? Content Hub makes it easy.
The Technical Process
A variety of items can be created in Content Hub. Once a piece of content is created or updated, it is added to an export queue. When the queue runs, Content Hub checks what content is tagged to be distributed to subscribing sites on the SiteMasonry platform.
The subscribing sites have the content added to their import queue. When the queue runs, the site determines the nature of the content and displays it in the correct places on the site.
A Collective Effort
Having your site connected to Content Hub lets you access this wealth of connected content, but it also comes with the responsibility of being a good contributor. What you contribute no longer represents just your website, but the Mason website community as a whole. Therefore, it’s very important you become good stewards of the content you put out and produce the sort of content you want to see from others. The Content Hub is a collective Mason effort.
