What is Content Hub?

While any SiteMasonry site has its own content and pages, it is also possible to make news articles, people profiles, and academic program pages that can be shared between sites. The distributed content system that makes this possible is called Content Hub.

Sharing content between sites allows for there to be one official and up to date version of any given piece of content. This removes the risk of inaccurate or conflicting data, or duplicate and competing content. This also allows content to be indexed with searchable tags like author or topic. By clicking on one of these, a visitor can pull up all related content.

Content Types

Content Hub is home to three kinds of content:

  • news stories – content that can be syndicated across sites regarding events, happenings, and more
  • profiles – profiles of faculty, staff, or other individuals across the university
  • academic program pages – marketing pages for academic programs

This space is also home to any images, video, or other embedded content that needs to be held for the shareable content. These can be shared between different SiteMasonry sites that have been connected to Content Hub.

Navigating Content Hub

Within Content Hub, it is possible to search for content by title, editorial status, content type, author, topics, and sites it is shared to. Content will not be automatically shared to all sites within the SiteMasonry ecosystem. It’s important to look at what is already available to avoid duplicate content. It may be the case that you have to coordinate with content creators from other offices to update or publish content for both sites at the same time.

Content Organization

One of the perks of Content Hub is being able to filter and group content using topic tags. Topic tags are able to be used on sites to display a list of articles. However, this feature does have a few important quirks to note, especially when it comes to sharing content between sites.
