Web Manager - Site Owner Readiness

A Web Manager/Site Owner* is the chief content manager for a site, responsible for content creation, page building, supporting Content Editors, and maintaining high standards across the site.

Success in this role requires strong web writing, content strategy, and marketing skills to ensure a site meets web, brand, and accessibility standards.

 

Web Managers/Site Owners must:

  • Be a regular staff or faculty member. Students may serve as Content Editors but not as Web Managers/Site Owners.
     
  • Act as the site's primary point of contact.
     
  • Dedicate 5 to 10 hours per week, depending on site size, to maintain and support the website.
     
  • Have content editing experience with any CMS (e.g., Drupal, WordPress, SiteCore).
     
  • Understand basic best practices in web strategy and content creation.
     
  • Attend a university Brand training session.
     
  • Comply with all relevant Federal, Virginia, George Mason University, Information Technology Services (ITS), and Office of University Branding regulations, policies, and standards. This includes areas such as data use, security, digital accessibility, and content management.
     
  • Utilize SiteMasonry’s user guides and tutorials.
     
  • Train and support the site's Content Editors.
